Charlie Davies Seriously Injured in Car Crash

Got this info in my email a few minutes ago from Yanks Abroad:

USMNT striker Charlie Davies is in the hospital undergoing emergency surgery after an early morning car accident on the George Washington Parkway.

A 22-year old woman has been confirmed dead in the one-car crash which has also reportedly seriously injured two others.

Needless to say, this is tragic and awful and we can only hope Davies pulls through and that the other two injured are able to recover fully as well.

Steven Goff of the Washington Post said the injuries to Davies weren’t life threatening, but were “possibly” career threatening.

There’s a picture of the car on the Sporting News site. It’s a miracle anyone survived that wreck.

Wow

Horrible news. Sounds like he was lucky to survive, but I hope he can resume his career at some point.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

I hope he is able to play again, I was really enjoying his progress, fingers crossed.

USSF

The USSF withdrew the statement about the injuries being “possibly” career threating as they don’t have enough info according to Grant Wahl’s Twitter feed.

this hurts!!

Prayers for Davies and the Davies family. As well as all the victims in this accident. This one hurts because he was a big part of getting us on course to WC/2010. I would have love to see him play at the event as well.
Blessings of emotional and physical healing to you, Davies

Davies seriously injured

Per Ives (and many other places) Davies has suffered a lacerated bladder, fractures to the tibia and femur in his right leg, multiple facial fractures, and a left elbow fracture.

"Injuries of this nature usually require a recovery period of six to 12 months and extensive rehabilitation," said U.S. Soccer physician Dr. Dan Kalbac, who is with the team in D.C. and collaborated with the treating doctors. "Due to Charlie’s fitness level, his prognosis for recovery and his ability to resume high-level competition is substantially improved."

(Emphasis mine) Best wishes to Davies in his recovery and condolences to the family and friends of the passenger who perished in the accident.

The Outlaws (and likely Sam’s) will be doing some form of tribute during the game tonight against Costa Rica. At last check it’s anything from holding a bunch of these up to singing his name for the minute.

"Good crowd out there tonight, boys, let's really try to win this one."

It may go without saying, but if you’re going tonight, or know someone who is, they’re more than welcome to take part.

Multiple Tributes Tonight

You can print out a 9 paper and hold it up, and they are requesting the whole crowd stand during the 9th minute (which starts at 8:01, so we will see how intelligent the RFK crowd will be)

Other tributes will be banners, marches, and possibly a new chant to the tune of SUPER CHARLIE DAVIES.

Its going to be tough to watch, but it will look great.

Dunno how it looked on TV (and a smoke bomb got set off five seats from me), but:
