Donovan announcement set for Wedensday; Next stop, Everton?
Also file under: Why does everything attached to the Galaxy need to be such a freakin’ production?
So the announcement is set for tomorrow regarding Landon Donovan’s loan deal. It’s most likely Everton, and unless something goofy happens, he’ll report on or around Jan. 2 and be eligible immediately at
The only thing that remains to be announced, so it would seem, is whether this is a full spring loan, whereby Donovan would be unable to return to the Galaxy until the summer transfer window, after the World Cup, or whether this loan will be shaped similar to last year’s short-term lease deal with Bayern Munich. In that case, Donovan would be available to the Toffees, most likely, through March before returning to sunny So Cal to start in time for the MLS season.
Meanwhile, here’s my question:
Why does everything on Planet Galaxy have to be such a song-and-dance, dog-and-pony, ring-around-the-rosie production? This thing tomorrow … it’s going to be done from the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live. From the Screening Room, if you really want to know. It’s same room where Lindsay Lohan once bit the head off a showpiece Jesus-shaped Cheeto.
OK, I made up that last part. Still, can’t they just make an announcement, discuss it like mature men and women and not get all caught up in the next opportunity to parade around the brand?
Click through to read the announcement, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Announcement?
All of this hooplah for a ‘loan’. Kinda lame. Considering this, if this EPL experiment does not work Donovan will look like an ass. The undue pressure is mounting…….

Because the MLS world revolves around the Galaxy
If one simply looks at the history of the LA franchise you will see that the league has done and continues to do anything and everything they can to ensure they are front and center of the MLS world. Only this year after the huge attendance numbers Seattle put up, has any attention been drawn away from LA. So of course allowing their 2nd star player to leave on loan has to be a huge event, as I am sure it will also include the league saying that Landon’s salary no longer counts against the Galaxy cap number.
Oh the only remaining question is who do they get now? What if Landon actually can cut it in the EPL and Everton want to keep him, will he come back? Who does LA go out and get now to complete their puzzle and will they if both Becks and Landycakes come back end up with 3 DP’s again? Now we will have a loan exception to go along with the grandfather exception, and eventually when their payroll tops 15 million a year and they still haven’t won the MLS Cup, perhaps the reality of it all will come crashing down and they will have to play by the same rules as everyone else.

not bitter fed up
I am not bitter at all, I am sick and tired of the league bending over backwards to give one team an advantage they don’t give to others. It send a horrible message to the rest of the league, and makes our league look rather bush league.
Goto ESPN360 and rewatch the pregame show from the MLS Cup, in 30 minutes there are at least 15 minutes dedicated to the Galaxy, 8-10 to Seattle, and about 5 to Real Salt Lake.
Go look at the salary deals that LA has cut over the last 3 seasons, no other team was allowed to have three DP’s on their roster, New York was forced to trade for their second, but LA got both Ruiz and Landycakes “grandfathered” so they didn’t count when Beckham came over. I get that with goldenballs that LA gets a huge amount of extra attention, but the three ring circus and bending of rules makes the whole of the league look bad. I think an even playing field is critical for the league to be taken seriously by sports fans.

They are still developing the league
So that’s just the way it is. Personally I see Kansas City and LA the way you should see Manchester vs. Ipswich, but they just couldn’t go with that out. I’d like to see about 8 top tier teams and the rest other leagues.

to answer your question...
…NO! They are merely following in the footsteps of American tradition, and they think the consumer (in this case, the supporters) are naive enough to confuse hoopla with actual content (“content” in this case being quality football).
Sad thing is, it works. For an NFL example, see the new Cowboys stadium.
...that's MISTER Keller to you!!!

I think Its Called Publicity
They want to publicize the event to get a lot of coverage. I guess they are trying maximize their return on their investment by hyping their player.

it's becuuuuuuuuuz
donovan will need a press conference in order to explain why he’s about to do exactly what he criticized becks for doing. he’ll be gone half the MLS season.

Scenarios and Outcomes
Well, I seetwo possible outcomes to this.
1. Things go as planned, Donovan isn’t good enough for EPL, and LA gets their star back.
2. Landon is good in the winter, things go sour with LA and a loan turns into an extended loan. An extended loan turns into a transfer. I start liking Landon and Everton more( or less, I’m not sure yet) and LA gets ripped off.
- is preffered.

3. Donovan tears the Premier up, wins world cup
then goes back to MLS to relax
That’s my preferred scenario
