No. 11 on the list of U.S. Soccer momentous moments of the decade
I wrote a piece for Soccernet that went up yesterday detailing the most momentous, meaningful moments of past decade in
There was one more than I wanted to add into the list, but just couldn’t find a way to squeeze in: the moment Seattle Sounders FC came together as a franchise.
The Sounders addition definitely pushed MLS past sticking points in more than one way.
As for wedging
Was that too much of a stretch? Eh. There is, after all, some journalistic license involved in these pieces.
Also, you could make the argument that
All that said, this is a little bit of a mea culpa. So, all you good Sounders fans, cut me a little slack, eh?

You are forgiven.
It’s hard to argue with that list. I don’t know that I think about Klinsmann much, but I’m also willing to concede that it had larger implications for US Soccer than the good thing we have going on here in the Pac NW.
Heck, I might even have slotted Abby Wambach’s broken leg prior to the 2008 Olympics at #11. The WNT was under some pressure after a disappointing World Cup, but Pia and the team rallied together to bring home the gold medal.

MLS Expansion
Might just have been the way to talk some Sounders. The post-contraction wave of expansion has done so much to build the game here in the USA & Canada. Its more than just Toronto and Seattle, but Houston (MLS counts them), San Jose, Salt Lake, and Chivas are reigniting the passion in this country.
Philly, Portland, Vancouver and Montreal will do even more.
