Donovan set for Everton debut

Assuming the mean ol’ weather elves don’t drop any more snowy misery on London > proper, Everton will visit the northern part of town to take on Arsenal.  While the fans around the Emirates are all atwitter over talk of Cesc Fabregas packing up his European man bag and spiriting back to Spain, the talk of the Toffees is about Landon Donovan’s debut.

EFC manager David Moyes has named the American to the squad, and his chances of playing are improved by a nagging hammy injury to Louis Saha. (Saha. Hurt. Imagine that. Poor dude.)

Here is the official preview from Everton, with significant mention of Donovan’s impending debut. Here is the official preview from Arsenal.

Around our parts, the game will be little more than a rumor while it’s going on. That is, none of the EPL TV partners on our shores will show Saturday’s encounter. But highlights will be beamed around the globe, so fret not.

Even this cold-hearted sorta-scribe ...

… wants to see LD make an impact.

Let’s hope it happens. The weather situations is tenuous.

Maybe ESPN will pick it up

The game ESPN was showing tomorrow (Chelsea-Hull) got postponed so hopefully ESPN can work some magic and broadcast it

"Saha. Hurt. Imagine that. Poor dude"

Ha ha! So so true. As soon as it gets a bit parky out he seems to pick up these mystery injuries, poor lamb.

Looks like only the Arse and the Brum games have survived this weekend’s cull so I guess I’ll be watching Birmingham (i see that Sopcast are showing both for all my fellow naughty stream-watching brethren).

It’s rather apt that LD may make his debut in North London as his first name is exactly how the locals pronounce their home city. Being a Yid I hope he scores a hattrick… :-)

Durr

Just realised the Birmingham game’s after the Arse game so I can catch both. Noice.

Sounds like Donovan and Saha are BOTH starting. Interesting…..

Anyone else have Setanta?

Not a bad debut. I’m not the biggest Donovan fan, but he looked good today. A little passive and maybe a little shy to go into contact, but he didn’t look like he was over his head. I don’t see why he shouldn’t keep his place for the next match against Man City.

Didn't See the Match

But it sounds like he did well… Sky Sports article on the game gave him the highest rating out of any of the Everton players, although it sounds like pienaar and cahill played better. Good first match keep up the work.

Cust is the new Jaha.

Yeah

he did OK although he didn’t look like a regular right winger in any way. I don’t remember him actually taking on the fullback at any time.

He did the simple things right though and was constantly up for receiving the ball. A solid B grade I’d say which is better than you have any right to expect from a debut.

Oh, and Arsenal are a bunch of spawny bastards. Two deflected goals? Pffffft!
