Matt Damon: a Chelsea man, apparently

Damon and Greengrass on Sunday at Stamford Bridge

I guess the fellas calling yesterdays Arsenal-Chelsea proceedings aren’t big Jason Bourne fans. Uh, guys, maybe you need to get that situation sorted out.  Or maybe, being Brits, they were pissed off that over much the last decade Bourne had been doing Bond better than the Bond series, as the venerable UK institution had lost its way, stumbling into the silly zone before a Daniel Craig-assisted rally.

Any-who, right in the middle of matters Sunday at Stamford Bridge, TV directors cut to a rather long, static shot of two faces in the crowd. They seemed to be having a good time, smiling and chatting away while watching the game along with the rest of us. Maybe the announcers weren’t checking out the monitor at that exact moment, but for whatever reason they didn’t note that those faces belonged to Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass. Greengrass teamed with Damon on two of the Bourne movies (Supremacy and Ultimatum) and also on Damon’s upcoming Green Zone.

Word is that the American actor is a Chelsea fan. (And that he does a mean Michael Ballack impersonation.)

(SIGH)

Celebrity Man U fans. Celberity Chelsea fans. Celebrity Barcelona fans. Celebrity Real Madrid fans. When are we gonna get a celebrity Liverpool fans??? I personally hope the first one is Beyonce so that she cansing You’ll Never Walk Alone. That would be pretty cool. Or someone super-awesome. Chad Ochocinco would be a good fit.

Dr Dre and the Pope

Wow. I feel stupid now. That is awesome. Dre’s cool and a future Saint should help out the tram a smidgen. Thanks for the list. Still, Beyonce would be awesome. Eminem is the best rapper. That would be cool.

I think Ochocinco is a Chelsea fan. Not sure, but I think so. I know Kevin Garnett is.

Still, I second your nomination of Beyonce

I missed the shot of Damon

But as I was watching the game with my girlfriend, she commented that Ballack looked like Damon. Random.

Lame

Utterly predictable. I think he should have adopted Luton Town instead.

Not mediocre. Right about average

funny story

i was with a few friends on our annual soccer trip to england about three years ago. Luton had a Friday night match, which gave us one more to squeeze in for the weekend. We wanted to make sure we had the right train, so we asked this fellow nearby. “Excuse me, but we’re heading to Luton …” He interrupted, sounding shocked. “Why?! … Oh, is there a match there?” We answer yes, there was, so his toned was much more moderated. "Oh, very well. Yes take this train to such and such … " It was a really funny moment.

Reaction Jackson...

Here in Texas, (as you should know, Steve) one would get the same shocked reaction when telling someone that you are going to Oklahoma (minus, the “is there a match there”). It also might likely be preceded by “In heaven’s name…”, or followed by the more graphic “what the f*#& for…”

Matt Damon at Chelsea Game

What is amusing is that you didn’t notice that sitting directly behind Matt Damon, and visible in the picture, is Don Sheppard, Founder and President of LAFC Chelsea.
