Major League Soccer Power Rankings; RSL on top

Photo

For the full portion of MLS Power Rankings, you'll have to check out SI.com's soccer site later today, when these are posted, along with a snarky version of the Five Things we learned about MLS from Week 1.  (Update: posted here now.) For now, the teaser ...

1. RSL: If you checked “Fat, happy and complacent” next to RSL on your preseason prognosis, well, you’re gonna want a do-over. The champs’ 3-0 win at San Jose was no fluke.

2. Columbus: Danny O’Rourke for U.S. left back! O.K., that’s a bit much. But he was darn good on a nice opening night for Columbus.

3. Seattle: It wasn’t the best night for Sigi Schmid’s Sounders and their sophomore debut, but Freddie and Fredy did enough to secure the points and remind everyone who the expansion team is now.

4. Kansas City: KC boss Peter Vermes has really found something in livewire attacker Ryan Smith. And holding mid Stephane Auvray is more than just a hair guy. He’s good, too.

5. Colorado: Sooner or later, Omar Cummings will get dinner-sized portions of national respect he deserves, rather than the typical appetizer portions. They took all three points at Chivas USA.

Ugh, I’m hoping DCU’s performance on Saturday was just a freak game and now we’ve got the badness out of our system. Putting Kansas City #4 in the power rankings makes me depressed.

Red Bull New York looked solid. Coundoul is a great keeper and I hope they are in the top 6.

Bouna Time

He is a hit and miss guy, he has been since entering the league. He will make some brilliant plays and then have a brain cramp and do stupid things. I do think he has all the talent needed to be a top notch keeper in MLS but it will take some good coaching to break him of bad habits.

That's where Hans comes in

He’s gotten this team in line and from all the interviews I’ve read, it seems they have completely forgotten about last year.

As will I.

We’ll have to get together for a game sometime, Esty.

What?

No FCD in the top 5? Blasphemy!

But seriously, I fear for our season. Houston was substandard at best, and it took FCD all of the strength it could muster to get a share of the points. That could be a reason only 6k turned up, and 1k of them were Houston fans.

Steve,
The Columbus record on your SI page is wrong. Shows Columbus as (0-1-0) and number 15, Union, says FC Dallas.

RSL has a great chance to prove themselves in April. Seattle, Columbus, LA.
