SB Nation's "smart-guy" MLS rankings
"Well, look at the big brains on our network!"
Say it in your best Samuel Jackson-Pulp Fiction voice, and I promise it'll sound better.
Some bright lights around the SB Nation blogger network got together and created a smarter, enhanced version of MLS Power Rankings. Hell, anybody can do a standard old 1-16 version. I can even do that -- and I can barely remember who I am in the morning without looking at my driver's license.
Thanks to my pals at Black And Red United, Sounder at Heart, RSL Soapbox, Once a Metro and Brotherly Game, here is the grand debut. Think of it as MLS rankings for the thinking man. Feel free to tell us how smart we are ... or how full of it.

I kind of like it. But, uh, who does (did) the voting?

voting is done by
The SB Nation Soccer bloggers, a mixed group of folks who love the beautiful game and spend their lives with nothing better to do than things like this. god help them, I mean us.
we should ...
… probably add a standard explainer line to the bottom of the chart going forward. As we are men of action, not Office Space cubicle culture clones bound by the menace of meetings and focus groups and such (not in this part of our lives, anyway) I suspect we can get that done lickety split.
other teams???
So where are the other teams’ SB bloggers? There must be someone from LA, Chicago, Houston etc. to fill the role

Ok, that's how but...
Now let’s talk about when and where. When and where is the voting going to be done each week? What about the fans, like us poor Red Stripers, who don’t have a SBNation blog for our team? Can I just vote on, say, the RSL Soapbox? Or does our vote not count?
Please note, I am not trying to be too serious about this, but I would like to participate. It sounds like fun.

the problem with that is
Homer picks. You don’t want the team with the most fans getting their team ranked higher, regardless of their actual play. Sure you could add in some percentage factors like fan votes count for this much, blogger leaders count for this much, etc. but that just leads to a more complicated formula then is needed. Let the bloggers who might love a certain team but are pretty fair, balanced and realistic about all teams, continue to do the rankings. I think that is the best judgement.

"All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break them for no one." Scarface

currently only the bloggers are voting
BUT maybe we find a way to get fan input as well
I’ll have to think about how to do it

No, I think Talon is right...
Restricting it to the bloggers is probably the way to go. I just think that all teams should be represented somehow. Because, no matter how impartial one might think they are, there is always a little built-in bias for and/or against certain teams or players. (although, looking at the initial rankings, I think they did an excellent job)
I just don’t know how to have representation for the teams that don’t have their own blog.

Steve and the SBN team
Are working hard at getting more MLS, and other soccer, blogs up, and so that will grow
But I do think their may be a way to get some fan input, and if that is only rated as one vote among over a dozen it wouldn’t weigh too heavy.
One MLS blogger didn’t get a vote in on time, but that will change, and one of the EPL blogs may participate next week as well.
