Tim Howard OK, set for Slovenia

No worried for U.S. backstopper Tim Howard. U.S. Soccer officials said Monday he's doing fine.

JOHANNESBURG – If you were killing yourself trying to figure out just who is the U.S. No. 2 in goal – Marcus Hahnemann? Brad Guzan? – well take a deep breath. Relax. Smokem if you gottem.

Tim Howard looks like he’s A-OK.

U.S. Soccer just released a short statement saying that his bruised ribs are healing adequately.

"After a physical examination this morning, the medical staff has determined there is no need to conduct additional testing on goalkeeper Tim Howard.  He continues to make substantial improvement and is expected to be available for the match against Slovenia."

For the record, both of the other goalkeepers warmed up on the sidelines as Howard lay wounded by Emile Heskey’s probing boot. Hahnemann, with literally more than a decade of experience on the young Guzan, was doing ball work with U.S. goalkeeper coach Zak Abdel. Guzan was running along the sidelines. For whatever that means to you.

Bob Bradley has never said whom he considers his No. 2.

Doesn't it have to be Marcus?

I mean, he got the game time in the last friendly, so I’d have to lean with him. Either way, great news on Timmy! Even if his ribs were broken I think he’d still go, at least if the doctors let him.

Yep

It has to be Marcus, Guzan doesn’t even play for his club team. He has got to be rusty, Marcus had a very good club season.

Hey, I’ve got full faith in Hahnemann and Guzan, but it’s only good news for us if Howard is fit for Friday’s match with Slovenia.

Re: Huzzah!!!!111

Hey, you stole that photo from my personal computer, that is internet theft!

But, agreed, I feel good as long as Howard is playing, because neither backup seemed impressive. Guzan just hasn’t played enough in the last year, and I frankly don’t trust a bald man with a flavor saver (quick checks Steve photo to see what facial hair he may have so as to not offend).

I think you're getting spoiled if neither backup impressed

They’re not Howard, sure, but nobody else is. You think England would kill to have Guzan or Hahnemann right now?

True.

At the pub Saturday, an English fan told me, “We want Howard.” I told him, “You can have him if we can have Rooney.” We have GK depth… a Rooney is really what we need.
