Everyone loves big Gooch, but this one's gonna sting ...
PRETORIA, South Africa -- Everybody loves Oguchi Onyewu. We love him because he is the very physical embodiment of everything we want our soccer to be: a big ol’ bad ass, one that doesn’t take crap from anyone.
The love affair started back in 2005, when he made Mexican striker Jared Borgetti his, uh, [insert bad word for female doggie here] in that Columbus qualifier against Mexico. We saw that "I'm a bad man!" stare-down of Borgetti, and that was it. We had a hero.
But, uh, there’s a little problem. And it’s a real noggin scratcher.
I just don’t think the big fellow is up for the job here in
But wait! There’s more! There’s a second part to this puzzler: at this point it’s probably too late, and there’s probably more danger in replacing Onyewu than in keeping him out there. You can read more about that here – but if you’re a Gooch fan, I warn you, it ain’t gonna be easy.

He has been good 1 on1
our entire team defense has sucked though. that includes midfield, i think it has to due with the BS wait and see approach were playing with.
When I get older, I will be stronger.
They’ll call me freedom, just like a Waving Flag
Having him just stand there and watch that first Slovenia Goal
Was just inexplicable.
Just as inexplicable as Howard coming off his line when the one thing Onyewu was doing was taking away the straight shot or the failure of the defense to be able to figure who is marking who for the entire World Cup.
But he was pretty huge in the England game.
Forced to agree with Steve
He doesn’t look like the force in the air he was before the injury.
Which, frankly, was the only reason for putting up with his penchant for bad fouls, and his occasionally being pulled out of position.
He did have a role in all three goals we’ve surrendered, though Clark was more at fault on Gerrard’s goal. On Wednesday I hope to see DeMerit and Goodson, but that’s doubtful.
Bad Memories of that match in Columbus...
If memory serves me correct, that was the beginning of the end for Borghetti on El Tri. I believe this picture sums it up,
