Is it time for FIFA to review all bookings

With the questionable bookings to Kaka and Robbie Findlay, is it time for FIFA to take a page from the NBA and review all bookings the way the NBA reviews all technical and flagrant fouls? The NBA has been known to rescind technical & flagrant fouls when it is shown that the referee should not have called one of those fouls to a player.

The Boston Celtics were the receipients of more than 1 rescision of technical fouls.  Kendrick Perkins had accumulated enough technical fouls to be suspended, bit the NBA said no, one of the fouls should not have been called.

Is it time for FIFA to look at bookings to see if they are deserved?

It would be a good idea to do that at major international tournaments like the World Cup and Euros.

But FIFA won’t do it. They are very big on the idea that they set the rules for every game, everywhere. So they don’t like to change (improve) anything very often since they don’t want those changes to have unintended effects at other levels in the sport.

Los Angeles is like Manchester. There is a red team that wins championships and a blue team that doesn't.

To some extent, a structure is already in place to do that.

FIFA doesn’t automatically review all yellows, but it does automatically review all reds. They review all red cards and put out a statement as to whether the player will receive the standard two-match ban or something more or less.

As for yellows, there is an appeal process in place, and FIFA has set a precedent in the past for overturning yellows that were clearly given to the wrong person or for a reason that was clearly incorrect (such as a yellow for a handball that clearly struck the player’s face). The team has to request the appeal, however… it’s not automatic.

This leads me to believe that US Soccer never actually appealed the second yellow to Robbie Findley that got him banned for the Algeria match. (Personally, I think they were thinking what I was thinking… that it was time to try someone new anyway, so why file an appeal when he’s already not going to play in the game he’d be banned for.)

It is my understanding that a yellow can only be overturned in a case where it was clear given to the wrong player.

I don't think it will happen

Are you talking about the red card Kaka got? If so, then there is now way I would reverse that one. Brazil got away with one goal that touched the player’s arm twice.

I would like to see them retroactively give yellows for obvious dives
