What cost us were lingering mistakes that weren't even attempted to be fixed
I'll start off talking about the Ghana game, we were outplayed and coached. You seriously have to question why in the F'n world Bob Bradley would bench Maurice Edu who played heavily in our win and the Slovenian game but Ricardo Clark just had to play in his first game and almost screw everything up. He lead to another early goal (I'll get at that in a second) and struggled. Someone like Onyewu would have been great in this game, Ghana is a big stron and athletic team and so is Onyewu. This was not a tactical game , this was a game of strength, taking the ball and 1 on 1's. That is Gooch's game. Also why in the world did Robbie Findley start? He's a decent sub but cannot finish and were a teamthat did't get a goal from it's strikers all tourney. Findley hasn't done anything all world cup, and neither has Hercules Gomez.
Gomez was hyped as an off the bench scorer but was invisible all world cup when he was in, but when Eddson Buddle came in against Algeria right away he got a shit in on goal, he was setting people up and controlling the ball. He also is a proven scorer and a good finisher, what is Bradley's issue with him that he can't play him? Is youth the excuse? Cause Jozy is still developing and so is Findley. This was maybe one of the most crucial mistakes. Altidore was maybe the only guy other than LD that got good runs and set people up.
Everyone talks about the early goals, that goes to discipline. Who helps with discipline? The coach, Bradley too me didn't do a good enough job when it comes to focusing on discipline and aggressiveness. This was an issue from day 1 and it was never addressed which is unacceptable We looked soft and dumb at times, we need a killer instinct . Buddle and Jozy together showed they can make a good front lineup and that Edu was serviceable. Why did we steer away from that? We could have been much better in all our games id we played the right people. But too often than not we experimented and didn't stick to the good things

To be quite honest
Gomez looked more impressive in the minutes he played than Buddle. Buddle had one look on goal and was non existent otherwise.
Really?
I say Buddle holding on too the ball and setting people up in his limited time, I dont think Gomez did anything

Gomez took the defender out on the equalizing goal against Slovenia...
… allowing Altidore to head the ball to Bradley. That’s certainly not “nothing.”

Buddle if given more than what 20 minutes?
Could easily do what Gomez did, and I’m sorry. 1 thing and disappearing for every other minute and unable to hold, advance or pass the ball effectively does not impress me

I'm not saying he was Wayne Rooney or anything...
… I’m just saying he didn’t do “nothing.”

Gomez assisted on Dempsey's goal that was called offside
"And Julio Franco is batting right-handed!" -- Wayne Hagin, A's radio play-by-play, mid-80s
too be honest. i think they made a huge mistake leaving gooch out tonight. also i think altidore was injuried
Mike Green in regular season- Norris Canadiate. Mike Green in Playoffs- Nowhere to be found

But if Jozy was hurt, BUDDLE!

What really hurt was departing from the Algeria lineup...
…and having to burn two subs to recover from that error. To me Findley didn’t show me anything in any game, so it’s a mystery why he was reintroduced to the starting lineup. So now instead of having 1 forward who can’t finish, we had two. Using Feldhaber instead and Landon more centrally was more effective. And Edu was playing so well it’s a mystery why he did not start.
This not only had the effect of conceding the entire first half to Ghana, it robbed Bradley of two valuable substitutions when the team was gassed and tactical changes were needed. Big error on Bob Bradley’s part.
I should add...
…that Onyewu was ineffective, and that this was a correct decision on Bradley’s part.
I think the poll
should have an option that simply reads:
“Starting Clark”
Because I think that was the single biggest mistake tactically for that game.

"I believe that basketball, when a certain level of unselfish team play is realized, can serve as a kind of metaphor for ultimate cooperation. It is a sport where success, as symbolized by the championship, requires that the dictates of the community prevail over selfish personal impulses. An exceptional player is simply one point on a five-pointed star. Statistics—such as points, rebounds, or assists per game—can never explain the remarkable interaction that takes place on a successful pro team."
