Last World Cup winner as a non-host? Anybody? Anybody?
The blue-blooded, highly exclusive club of World Cup champions is about to get a new member. We all know that.
But here’s a little additional perspective on how particularly restrictive admittance to the club has been lately (as discussed yesterday with the encyclopedic World Cup Expert over a selection of cold ones from noted soccer nations in and around yesterday’s semifinal. Who knew
Riddle yourself this: who were the most recent first-time champions? That one’s not such a toughie. Many of you good and clean supporters of the game can identify

Another First for this Final
I had to correct myself a few times on this yesterday, but it’s the first time 2 teams met in the finals that weren’t A) Previous Winners, nor B) The host.
That is to say that, until 2010, every World Cup Final featured either a host, a previous winner, or both. Crazy.

another possible first
If Spain wins, the only undefeated team in the tourney will have been New Zealand. What’s the last time the only undefeated team at a World Cup was from Oceania? Huh?
Come on, someone find a more obscure first than that.
Slovenia, the smallest country in the World Cup
set the record for the lamest goal celebration ever.
Quite the accomplishment! I’m being kinda PC on that one.

Not more obscure
