On my blog, I wrote about the modern politicization of "Don't Tread on Me," and what it means to the U.S. national team.

Newfound political meaning?

That flag has always had a political meaning. It has been used over and over again by many different groups, conservative and liberal alike, since it was first introduced who wanted to show their dissatisfaction with the status quo or felt that the government was “treading” on the rights.. OK, you don’t like the tea party. Fine. I don’t either…but Nike’s campaign was just a marketing gimmick (a pretty good one I thought) that Nike has been using less and less of for at least 5-6 years. To complain that a group has politicized that flag and stolen it from US soccer is just silly.
