To celebrate EPL launch, check out this soccer coolness
To kick off the Premiership opening weekend (Two words: Suh Weet!), here’s a little something that should get the conspiracy theorist among you up in arms. … and something that I imagine has already been deployed for security purposes in stadiums across England. In fact, I’d bet my prized 1972 edition of the seminal book Soccer Skills and Tactics. (Well, it was seminal in my life, anyway.)
Take a gander at this photo from the recent Portland Timbers-LA Galaxy match. At first it looks like a nice, panoramic shot of Jeld-Wen Field. Nice, as in, something you would examine for about 4.5 seconds, nod approvingly, and then check your EPL fantasy league scores. Again. And feel slightly disappointed that they aren’t higher. Or maybe that’s just me.
Any-who. This is not just a run-of-the-mill photo. Perhaps I’m late to the party on this technology, but some kind of Jason Bourne, MI 6, Covert Ops kind of high-optic brilliance is at work here. Work the mouse around this shot and then begin zooming in – and prepare yourself to be stunned at the quality. Know people who attend Timbers’ matches? You can find ‘ em in the crowd. For sure. (So, fellows: if you have a little something on the side and don’t want wifey or the GF to find out, Timbers’ games may not be your best bet!)
Want to know the prices on the Stumptown Coffee at the concession area over the Axe Stand? It’s there. (Uh, $3.25? Really guys? It’s coffee.)
Want to know what’s on the menu at the concession area over the Key Bank Club? The pulled pork tacos ($6.25) sure sound good. (But if that dude in the bandana and orange vest is still hovering in the area, maybe you just best move on. He looks pissed.)
Seriously, check this think out. The quality in the image is astounding. I’m telling you, I can damn near read the time on Bruce Arena’s watch! Seriously. See for yourself.
I’ve poked around since and found similar images at other sporting events, political rallies, etc. So I’m thinking this is perfect for identifying troublemakers at the England grounds, or elsewhere.
I’m just picking on England here because EPL just started, and because London is already the most video surveillance-heavy city in the world. But I still love you London. And miss you. I’ll see you soon.
Thanks, by the way, to my man Bruce from DuNord for turning me on this brilliance.

I may be telling you something you already know, but from the article i’m not sure. You know thats not one picture, right? It’s a series of pictures taken with a digital camera zoomed in and stitched together with computer software.
Well, I figured ...
… it was something like that. I guess I thought perhaps multiple cameras/lens shooting at once or something. Either way, way cool.
Fortunately for adulterers,
this is only the 2nd time they’ve done this. The other being on opening night. Unfortunately I’ve got floating, double-head syndrome going on in my close-up.
And did you see the hot chocolate costs the same as the coffee? That makes the coffee seem like a bargain!
They
Did these at some A&M football games last year. Cool stuff
On the right, down in the corner by the field is a pair of legs with a chain saw.
Apparently he cut himself in half and started walking away.
Stitched shots. Anyone know for sure how this is done?
Yep. Check out the gate between sections 210 and 209, above the East Portland sign on the end of the stadium (I think I recall that being what was on the sign). People drinking coffee with the tops of their heads cut off. And a disembodied pair of legs walking down the tunnel.
Still, this is very, very cool stuff. I wonder how many megapixels in the camera that took these shots? Anyone have an educated guess? Based on the clarity I get with my 10 MP SLR, I’m thinkin’ that’s gotta be better than 20. Or is this a composite shot of many pics at only decent resolution?
Think I just answered my own question--looks to be something upwards of 12-15 shots
Check out the photo as it loads. You can see the cubes that comprise the entire photo.
My favorite is...
The ref with no head! LOL
Here is a really good ‘photo stitching’ software a pro photog friend uses: http://www.ptgui.com/

Incredible Stuff
But perhaps MLS should consider banning such shots at places like DC, New England and Columbus — unless it also wants panoramas of empty seats.
No no
the beauty of this type of pic is you can just move the 5 people in the stadium around for each portion of the picture… Viola! Full stadium!
You know what's nice about this photo to me?
Scanning through the thousands upon thousands of people in the crowd and not seeing any damn Man United or Barca jerseys. Just a bunch of people out their to support their local MLS club.
Win or lose, we'll always be there for you.

That's true...
Although at the LA game I did see a kid (about 12ish) wearing a Rooney Man Utd shirt with a Chicago Fire hat. Weird.
I'm a little dissapointed that you can't go all of the way inside Beckham's ear
That rubber pellet contrail behind Beckham is pretty cool though, although, somehow . . . unatural
…sorry to comment here, but I want to favorite your blog. Looks to be an enjoyable place to catch up on the sport.
It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.
Maybe next year the Ice Surface at Jobing.com should be frozen with the tears of Winnipeg. - TimmyHate of FiveForHowling to a troll after it was alleged Coyote fans do not know how to ice skate.
